European Space Weather Week 2026 and 2027
We are delighted that UNIGE will be hosting ESWW in Italy in 2026 and DIAS will be hosting it in Ireland in 2027. We look forward to seeing you all in Florence and Dublin!
European Space Weather Week, Umeå, Sweden, November 2025
The DIAS and UNIGE teams represented the ARCAFF project at this biggest space weather conference of the year, including hosting a stand promoting the project at the Space Weather Fair.
Dr Edoardo Legnaro (UNIGE) presented a talk on Solar Active Region Classification with Deep Learning and a poster on MLOps in the ARCAFF project. Prof Michele Piana (UNIGE) presented a poster on A global picture for the full Sun-to-Earth chain of the May 2024 Superstorm using physics-based artificial intelligence models.
The ARCAFF team organised a session on Bridging the Gap: Reproducibility, Deployment, Operation, Updates, and Monitoring of Machine Learning-Based Solar Flare Forecast Models. Dr Sophie Murray also co-organised a topical discussion meeting on Through Validation: Building Confidence in Space Weather Services for a Resilient Operational Future.

Dr Paul Wright (DIAS) gave an invited talk entitled From Model to Impact: Engineering Machine Learning for Space Weather Forecasting.
Dr Daniel Gass (DIAS) gave a contributed talk about Dataset Creation for ML Applications in Heliophysics – Lessons from ARCAFF.

The DIAS team organised this very special RAS Meeting in Dublin about Advancing Space Weather Forecasting: Bridging Gaps in Machine Learning. Besides DIAS hosting the meeting and chairing numerous sessions, Edoardo Legnaro (UNIGE) also presented some recent results from ARCAFF.

6th Dolomites Workshop on Constructive Approximation and Applications, September 2024
The UNIGE team attended this workshop which provides a forum for researchers to present and discuss ideas, theories, and applications of constructive approximation and Prof Michele Piana gave an invited presentation on A mathematical journey into solar physics and space weather.
